Mere Personal Trainer, Cav, wins Cheshire White Collar Boxing fight

On Saturday 24th November, Cheshire White Collar Boxing held a boxing fight at The Mere to raise money for the fantastic children’s charity, When You Wish Upon a Star. One of our very own Personal Trainers, Cav, took part in the event which saw a lot of intense training to prepare for the fight. We are thrilled to announce that Cav won the fight!  We caught up with him to find out what inspired him to take part in the fight and to find about more on how we prepared himself for it.

What inspired you to take on the challenge?

I’ve always loved watching boxing and have always wanted to experience the atmosphere and excitement of participating in a boxing fight. However, due to a spinal injury, I thought I’d never be able to get in the ring myself. Cheshire White Collar Boxing gave me the opportunity to take on the challenge of a fight first hand.

How did you prepare for the fight?

I trained hard in the run up to my fight. My workouts were intense and involved high intensity interval training (hiit) and explosive power drills. I sparred and practised hours of technique with my coach, Ian Wood, and attended some of the Cheshire White Collar training evenings. I also ate more conscientiously in the lead up to the fight to ensure my body had the correct nutrients to support muscle growth and burn fat.

How did your family and friends feel about the challenge?

My friends, family and clients have been behind me every step of way and the support I received on the night was overwhelming. The encouragement and coaching I had from Ian wood was first class and I couldn’t have done it without him! I am very appreciative of all the support I received.

Tell us about the fight…

On the night of fight I managed to keep focused; I felt prepared and ready. I felt in control from the first bell and used movement and angles to try and gain advantage. Fatigue had begun to set in when I entered the second round leading to a close round. In the third round, I had to give everything I had to secure the win. My opponent was a great fighter and we had a great match.

Will you continue to box now that the fight is over?

I have been asked to fight for the Cheshire White Collar Middleweight belt, however I have promised my family that i wouldn’t partake in another!

What is going to be your next challenge?

I am currently still deciding on my next challenge, I’ll be looking to push myself even further out of my comfort zone whilst raising more money for a good cause.

Congratulations Cav from all of Team Mere. If you’d like to donate to Cav’s When You Wish Upon a Star Just Giving page, please click here.
